Hay Making 2011

June Hay making was cut short by the dear tractors steering breaking down due to a major oil leak! So unfortunately we only managed about 180 bales of hay which is far to little to feed the Sheep over winter.

In late August we got another chance to make hay - a total of 54 big bale of haylage made by contractors as we don't have the equipment (or knowledge) - I cut the grass, tedded it and rowed it up, then they baled, wrapped it and finally stacked it. You see how big the bales are compared to the size of the Kawasaki Mule in the back ground.

We also made 323 small bales of hay, but due weather and machinery break down we had to wrap this too. And managed to wrap 290 bales which are now in the new barn.

Some of the small Bale Haylage - we had this tested to find out the feed value. Mole Avon  are agents for forage sampling. We also made 180 bales of standard Hay in June which we also had sampled to compare with the Haylage.
